Research and Development

Blackburn & Associates continues to create innovative and cutting-edge designs in drinking water and wastewater treatment. We currently have patents pending for our designs on our SSF/x slow sand filter and our control tank for our larger slow sand filters and iron filters.

We are currently working on several additional innovative filter designs, including a perlite filter (see photo on right), greywater systems, and wastewater recycling systems for commercial use, such as in car washes.

We are also developing package-plant emergency deployment slow sand filter systems that use solar powered supply pumps and chlorine injection or generation systems. These will come nestable for rapid deployment in emergency situations, have a long shelf life, and contain two barriers of protection, without any outside power or chemical requirements.

Perlite filters

Blackburn & Associates is currently working on designs for a small, home-sized perlite filter that can rest on a kitchen counter. Our goal is to make the filter light-weight, easy to maintain and highly effective in removing pathogens such as fecal coliform, Giardia and Cryptosporidium.
